Product Description:

This medicine contains two different substances called:

  • Saxagliptin, which belongs to a group of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors) and metformin, which belongs to a group of medicines called biguanides.
  • Both belong to a group of medicines called oral antidiabetics.

What Komboglyze is used for:

  • This medicine is used to treat a type of diabetes called " type 2 diabetes ".

How Komboglyze works:

  • Saxagliptin and metformin work together to control your blood sugar.
  • They increase the levels of insulin after a meal.
  • They also reduce the amount of sugar that your body produces.
  • Together with diet and physical activity, this helps to reduce your blood sugar. 
  • This medicine can be used alone or with other diabetes medicines, including insulin.
  • To control your diabetes, you must still follow your diet and exercise even if you are taking this medicine. 
  • It is therefore important to continue to follow the advice on diet and physical activity from your doctor or nurse.

How To Use:

  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
  • Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
  • If your doctor prescribes this medicine together with a sulfonylurea preparation or insulin, you must remember to use this other medicine as prescribed by your doctor, so that you achieve optimal results for your health.

How much to take:

  • How much of this medicine you can take depends on your condition and how large doses you take of metformin and/or of saxagliptin and metformin in separate tablets. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose of this medicine to take.
  • The recommended dose is one tablet twice a day.
  • If you have reduced kidney function, your doctor may prescribe a lower dose.
  • How to take this medicine
  • Take this medicine by mouth.
  • Take it with a meal to reduce the risk of stomach problems.

Diet and physical activity:

  • To control your diabetes, you must continue to follow your diet and exercise even if you are taking this medicine.
  • It is therefore important to continue to follow the advice of a doctor or nurse regarding diet and physical activity.
  • If you follow a diet for diabetic weight control, you must especially continue with it while taking this medicine.

If you take too much Komboglyze:

  • If you take more Komboglyze tablets than you should, talk to your doctor or go to the emergency room immediately. Take the medicine package with you.

If you have forgotten to take Komboglyze:

  • If you forget to take a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember.
  • If it is almost time for the next dose, you should not take the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time.
  • You should not take a double dose of this medicine to make up for a missed dose.

If you stop treatment with Komboglyze:

  • Keep taking this medicine until your doctor tells you to stop.
  • This helps control your blood sugar.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about the use of this medicine.

Warnings And Precautions:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Komboglyze:

  • If you have type 1 diabetes (your body does not produce insulin).
  • This medicine should not be used to treat this condition.
  • If you have or have had pancreatic disease.
  • If you use insulin or an anti-diabetic medicine known as a "sulfonylurea".
  • Your doctor may want to reduce your dose of insulin or sulfonylurea when you take one of them together with this medicine to avoid low blood sugar .
  • If you have had allergic reactions to any other medicines that you take to control the amount of sugar in your blood.
  • If you have a problem or are taking a medicine that can reduce the body's defense against infections .
  • If you have ever had heart failure or you have other risk factors for developing heart failure, such as kidney problems.
  • Your doctor will advise you about the signs and symptoms of heart failure.
  • You should contact your doctor, pharmacist or nurse immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.
  • Symptoms may include, but are not limited to, increasing shortness of breath, rapid weight gain and swelling of the feet (edema).

Ingredients:

  • The active substances are saxagliptin and metformin hydrochloride. 
  • Each film-coated tablet contains 2.5 mg saxagliptin (as hydrochloride) and 1000 mg metformin hydrochloride.
