Chlorpheniramine 4 mg Tablets

Allerfin  Tablets belong to the class of antihistamines.

How Chlorpheniramine Works

This antihistamine works by preventing histamine from binding to its H1 receptors in cells of the respiratory, blood vessels, and digestive tracts.

It is a first-generation antihistamine and can cause drowsiness.

Specific Uses of Allerfin Tablets

For the relief of allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, red eyes, and itchy nose and throat.

How to Use Allerfin Tablets

Swallow the tablets with a full glass of water.

Adults and children 12 years and over: One tablet every four to six hours.

Do not take more than six tablets in 24 hours.

Children 6 to 11 years: Half a tablet every four to six hours.

Do not give more than six half tablets in 24 hours.

Dosage may be adjusted in special circumstances, so always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital immediately. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.

Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.

Side effects of Allerfin tablets:

Drowsiness and sedation

Difficulty concentrating, lack of coordination, dizziness, headache

Blurred vision

Nausea, dry mouth

Fatigue

Using Allerfin tablets during pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Helpful tips for relieving cold symptoms:

Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids.

Try to breathe humidified air.

Drink warm liquids (soup or tea) to relieve nasal congestion and loosen phlegm.

Eat a balanced diet, and if you cannot, make sure you get enough nutrients by taking a daily multivitamin.

Avoid dairy products as they may thicken phlegm.

Warnings and Precautions While Using Allerfin Tablets

Do not take the tablets:

If you are allergic to chlorphenamine, any other antihistamine, or any of the other ingredients in this medicine.

If you are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (for depression) or have taken one within the last 14 days.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the tablets if:

You have epilepsy.
You have liver or kidney problems.
You have heart problems, or severely high blood pressure.
You have asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, or chronic lung problems (difficulty breathing and a cough that doesn't go away).
You have high pressure in your eye (glaucoma).
You are a man with prostate problems.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Other antihistamines, including cough and cold medicines, that make you feel sleepy.
Sleeping pills, anxiety medicines, antidepressants.
Phenytoin (for epilepsy).
